Skin Bumps - Investigating the Unknown
Anytime my children fall ill, I don’t hesitate to get professional medical health opinions. In this world of frightening diseases, even the most non-threatening, if left unchecked, can have consequences. So when my son developed unusual skin lesions, I had to act fast.
Over the past few months, my son developed what looked to be a wart where his hairline meets his forehead. After visiting the doctor, he was unsure if it was a wart. He, therefore, advised me to keep an eye on it.
It grew rather quickly and was irritated and itchy. Our family physician suggested I use medicated salicylic acid bandages. I saw some improvement. After a while, it just stopped working. Then slowly, the ‘wart’ started to shrink on its own over a couple of weeks.
Then BOOM, it came back with a vengeance and, so did a bunch of smaller ones, located on his face, neck and one on his back and ankle.
After nearly a month of waiting to be seen by a dermatologist, we got ushered into an interestingly small doctor’s office. A well-aged senior dermatologist (whose glasses were so incredibly thick I could barely see his eyes) examined my son. It was rather comical because instead of looking through his glasses, he looked over them to see my son’s skin lesions, offered me eczema cream and suggested my son had flea bites from our non-existent pet. We left. And I knew I still didn’t have any answers.
I researched further and discovered molluscum contagiosum, a poxvirus that followed all the same symptoms as my son’s condition. While I was initially worried, reading multiple sources of information gave me the knowledge to treat his condition. I gave him immune-boosting foods and supplements, positively aiding in his way to recovery.
Our family physician followed up with me after I advised him of our dermatologist experience. After bringing up my research and my suspicions of the actual cause, our doctor did confirm that I was correct about the skin lesions.
Although I am not a physician, I am a mother, and mothers have kept humanity alive since the beginning of time. I followed logic and intuition and got to the bottom of my son’s skin ailment.
Along with a balanced and nutritious diet I boost my children with supplements in their immune systems in time of need.
Supplements I use daily for my children:
Ester-C Sisu 250mg chewable vitamins
Progressive Multivitamin for Kids
Nature’s Plus: Animal Parade Liquid Vitamins
DIY Topical Treatment I use for itchy Irritated skin:
